BLOOMING GREEN FLOWERS, KENT: PYO OPEN DAY
Blooming Green -- cousins Jen Stuart-Smith and Bek Bibby -- been growing flowers in the middle of their family's fruit farm for the past eight years. Next Friday they will be opening the gate to their acre flower plot so that people can pick their own flowers, at their own pace, and make the most of British Flowers Week.
The warm weather had brought out a flush of flowers including Nigella, Sweet Williams, Sweet Peas, Delphiniums, Foxgloves and lots of other, more unusual, blooms.
The flower plot will be open from midday until approximately 4pm, and there will be refreshments on hand to keep flower-pickers' strength up. You are encouraged to fill your £10-containers as full as you can, before Jen and Bek wrap the flowers for you to take home.
It is easy to get to Blooming Green, who are just south of Maidstone, on the Greensand Ridge in Kent, and about 10-15 minutes from the M20. There are detailed directions on their website, which tend to be more reliable than sat nav. What better way is there to get ready for the weekend and celebrate British Flowers Week, than a potter round an acre of organic, field-grown flowers and foliage,in the Garden of England.
