Day Three - Designs using British Alliums by Bloomsbury Flowers

There is a distinct sense of the theatrical in the work of Stephen Wicks and Mark Welford of Bloomsbury Flowers.

They celebrate the natural, organic beauty of flowers with their unpretentious design style and a masculine twist.

A trunkful of alliums

Packed and ready to go: a forest of alliums and poppyheads, salvia, nepeta, aquilegia and globe artichoke appears to grow from within the tin trunk.

The design has an industrial feel to it - the mixed media of cities and plants against concrete and metal. It is inspired by Stephen’s memories of his father’s garden and of being packed off to White Lodge, the Royal Ballet School, with a trunk full of his possessions.

Urban Alliums

Like mini city scapes, towers of alliums stand tall from the solid old French pot, as the contorted stems of allium ophioscorodon weave between them.

Clouds of Alliums

Alliums are known for their tall slender stems. By cutting them down completely, the florists have changed the way you view them. Now more like purple topiary clouds in this wreath design, you focus on their intricate textural quality.
